Furniture
Each piece of wood has its own unique energy that drives the design of the piece. Using the wood grain, character, and history helps us create an exquisite piece of elegant functional art.
This centuries old philosophy, common in many high-end Shaker and Arts & Crafts style furniture, is what ultimately drives the designs of both our residential and commercial furniture.
Reclaimed Lumber
Our reclaimed lumber comes from various sources, but we often find structures such as old barns (often made from American Chestnut) that are beyond repair. These structures contain planks and timbers that still have rich possibilities. Planks that are weathered on the outside may have gorgeous wood just 1/16 th of an inch under the surface.
Salvaged Lumber
By salvaging hardwood trees such as Cherry, Black American Walnut, and Spalted Maple that are slated for removal, we can offer pieces fashioned from contemporary woods and maintain our commitment to conservation. Our process gives storm-downed and damaged hardwoods new life as fine furniture in your home.
Historical Tags
Every piece of salvaged and reclaimed wood used in our furniture tells a story. We add unique value to the furniture we create by conducting historical research on the reclaimed and salvaged lumber used in our furniture. Our furniture is a very real way to bring historical connections to modern living.
Lasting Joinery
Traditional joinery is essential to creating furniture that will last for generations. We use time honored high-end joinery techniques including mortise and tenon joinery, distinctive ebony pinning, book matching of all panels, and randomly spaced and scribed dovetail construction. Our combination of high-end joinery methods pays homage to furniture hand-crafted centuries ago, and helps us creates pieces that will be in your family well into the future.
The Finishing Process
We rely on the natural patina of the wood to produce long-lasting beauty. Our completed pieces are hand rubbed with oil, resulting in furniture that will only improve with age.
